99 Nights in the Forest Online: Play the Browser Version Free

Played and checked on How we testedHorrorAction

Two of our three nights out in the trees ended with the deer killing us. Three of our four nights at camp ended with a sunrise and a free gem. The game spells out the trick in yellow the moment the deer attacks: "Hide behind the burning fire." That loop is the heart of this 99 Nights in the Forest, a free, unofficial GamePix take on the Roblox survival hit. Below: how to play 99 Nights in the Forest online, what kept us alive, every workbench cost, how saving works, the phone controls, and how it stacks up against the Roblox original.

What Is 99 Nights in the Forest on GamePix?

99 Nights in the Forest on GamePix is an unofficial, single-player survival game you play in the browser: you chop trees, carry logs back to a campfire, eat what you find, and try to live through each night while a deer creature hunts around your camp.

Every run of 99 Nights in the Forest starts at the same small camp: a log fire and a workbench, boxed in by grey fog walls that lift as you walk into new squares of forest. Your hotbar holds two things. A bag and an axe. The only tutorial is yellow text reading "Chop a tree and place wood in the fire", which becomes "Put wood until the fire is full" once you've fed it. A Day counter sits up top, with health on the right and an orange hunger bar on the left.

The setup comes from the Roblox game by Grandma's Favourite Games, where up to 25 players share a server and search the forest for missing children. Neither the co-op nor the rescue story showed up in our runs. The mood did carry over. The main menu lines up an antlered deer creature, a winged owl-like figure and a horned one around a snowy Christmas tree, and the loading screen shows red-robed figures around a red circle that look a lot like the original's cultists.

99 Nights in the Forest core loop: chop a thin tree, bag the logs with F, feed the fire with G, stay by the fire at night, and earn one gem per night survived.
The whole 99 Nights in the Forest loop in four steps. Food and crafting both feed it.

How to Play 99 Nights in the Forest

There's no tutorial screen in 99 Nights in the Forest, just key prompts on the right and those yellow objectives. Here's the loop in the order the game teaches it.

  1. 1
    Start a run

Press the green start button on the GamePix screen and give the download a moment. Then pick Continue, or New game, which warns that "All current saves will be deleted."

  2. 2
    Equip the axe and chop

Press 2 and left-click to swing. Pick thin trees: one by the rocks dropped three logs for us, while the fat trees beside camp gave nothing after 15-plus swings.

  3. 3
    Bag the logs

Press 1 for the bag, point at a log and press F. Five slots, so plan your trips.

  4. 4
    Feed the fire

Walk back and press G to drop logs from the bag onto the fire. In our run each one added 24 to its Level 1 bar, from 23/100 to 47 and then 71.

  5. 5
    Eat

Point at a carrot and press E to eat it on the spot, or press F to carry it home in the bag.

  6. 6
    Get home before dark

When purple text says "The night is coming", walk back to the fire and stay there until morning. Every night you survive adds a day and a gem.

The camera sits behind your character. On desktop it turned when we held the right mouse button and dragged, while moving the mouse alone did nothing (GamePix's own instructions mention a left-button drag, which we didn't test). Arrow keys work like WASD. Space jumps. The workbench needs E held for a couple of seconds, because a quick tap just shows its "Workbench Open" prompt. The gear icon opens Settings, with mouse sensitivity, music volume and a "Go to the menu (progress will remain)" button.

99 Nights in the Forest controls: WASD to move, Space to jump, left click to swing, right-drag to turn the camera, 1 and 2 for bag and axe, F to bag, G to drop, hold E to eat or craft.
Hold E at the workbench, since a tap won't open it.

99 Nights in the Forest Tips From Eight Nights

Treat camp as safer, not safe

We sat through eight nights. At camp we survived three of four, and the one loss came in our very first run, standing right where the game spawns you. Out among the trees we survived one night in three. The eighth ended in death too, somewhere we'd wandered without keeping track. The deer hits for 20 damage (per the game's debug log), and five hits ended the run every time it caught us. Does fuel help? We fed one fire to 71/100 but lost that run before dark, so we can't say. The game clearly wants it full, though. Three logs is cheap insurance.

99 Nights in the Forest day and night cycle: daylight until 3:15, a night warning, night and the deer from 3:45, then morning and a gem at 5:00.
Start walking home the moment the purple warning appears at 3:15.

Chop thin trees, not the giants

The blocky trees next to camp soaked up 15-plus swings in two separate runs without dropping a log. A thinner tree by the rocks gave three. That's a fire's worth, since three logs took the bar to 71/100.

Hunger kills too

Our longest run of 99 Nights in the Forest didn't end with the deer. On day 3 the orange bar was nearly empty, and the log showed "Player died" with no attack anywhere near it. Starvation. From full, the bar lasted about two and a half in-game days. A carrot restores only about 5 points (94 to 99 in the log) and regrows on a 180-second timer, so eat a few every day.

Budget wood for the workbench

Hold E at the workbench to see every recipe by bench level, priced in wood, metal (the blue icon) and a red resource we never found. Wood is the early bottleneck. These are the costs exactly as the menu showed them on October 5, 2026, in the game's own spelling.

With a five-slot bag, the map is one trip and the oldbed is four. We never found metal, which makes workbenchlvl2 the real gate, since it's the upgrade that unlocks the carrot plot and wooden walls. Find that one piece of metal before you pour 20 wood into a bed.

Use Continue, and know what death costs

Dying ("You died. Survived 1 day.") resets the run to Day 1, fire and all, but our gems carried over. New game wipes everything, after asking. Gems come from survived nights and from Achievements, which pay 5, 10, 15 and 20 gems at days 10, 20, 30 and 40. We haven't found anything to spend them on.

Browser Version vs the Roblox Original

Most people searching 99 Nights in the Forest want the Roblox game, and it's huge: #3 on Roblox's Top Playing Now chart at 13:29 UTC on October 5, 2026, with 216,944 people in it at 18:25 UTC and 29.89 billion visits since March 2025. The browser version borrows the setup, not the scale. Here's what we could check.

99 Nights in the Forest: browser version vs Roblox original (as of October 5, 2026)

If you can play Roblox, play the Roblox one. Co-op, the rescue story and live events are the appeal, and its "HALLOWEEN BEGINS" event runs October 17 to 24, 2026, after a "Helping Happy" warm-up from October 3 to 10. This browser build is how you play 99 Nights in the Forest online when Roblox isn't an option: a solo, bite-size version of the same loop that even copies the 3-wood map.

Is This 99 Nights in the Forest Worth Playing?

For a quick solo session, yes. Chopping, bagging logs, watching the fire bar climb and keeping an eye on hunger adds up to a small but real survival game, and the "A deer appeared" warning gives every night some tension. Saves held through a page reload, too.

The cons are clear, though. No co-op and no story in the days we played, so the loop gets repetitive fast. Nothing in the game explains how to turn the camera. Leftovers from another language version show through, like the death screen's "В меню" button (Russian for "To menu") and an ad pop-up that never fills in its price. And the main menu is a snowy Christmas scene. In October.

It suits anyone who wants a short taste of 99 Nights in the Forest on a computer without Roblox. If you have Roblox, the original is the better game on every gameplay point we compared.

Can You Play 99 Nights in the Forest at School?

Only if GamePix gets through. The game above loads straight from GamePix's servers, so there's no trick to getting 99 Nights in the Forest unblocked: either the filter allows it or it doesn't. This page is not a proxy or a bypass. We can't promise it works on any particular network, and we didn't test a school Chromebook. If you're searching for 99 Nights in the Forest unblocked because it hangs on the GamePix start screen, check for a filter or an ad blocker first. Our unblocked games page has more browser games.

99 Nights in the Forest FAQ

Is 99 Nights in the Forest free to play online?

Yes. You can play 99 Nights in the Forest free in the window above, with no download, and it never asked us for an account. It's ad-supported through GamePix, and nothing we saw was locked behind a payment.

Is this the real Roblox 99 Nights in the Forest?

No. It's an unofficial browser game that borrows the name, the deer and the campfire. The Roblox 99 Nights in the Forest is made by Grandma's Favourite Games and only runs on Roblox, and neither this build nor its GamePix page credits a developer.

Can I play 99 Nights in the Forest on a phone or Chromebook?

Probably on a phone, turned sideways. In Chrome's phone emulation (touch on, landscape) it showed a joystick, zoom buttons and a running-man button; a plain portrait window showed no touch controls. We didn't test a real phone or Chromebook.

Does 99 Nights in the Forest save your progress?

Yes, in the same browser. After a mid-run reload, Continue put us back on the same day with the same gems. Dying resets the run to Day 1, though our gems carried over.

Can you play the browser version with friends?

No. The menu only offers Continue and New game, and we never saw a lobby, server list or second player. For co-op you need the Roblox original, which takes up to 25 players per server.

How do you survive the night in 99 Nights in the Forest?

Head back when "The night is coming" appears and stay by the burning fire, which is the game's own hint. That kept us alive on three of four nights at camp, while two of our three nights out in the trees ended in death. Keep eating too. For more after-dark games, see our Halloween games list.

Why won't 99 Nights in the Forest load?

It's a sizeable Unity download, so give it a moment after the GamePix start button. If it never gets past that screen, an ad blocker, a privacy extension or a school or office filter can stop it. Reloading the page didn't cost us our save.

How long is a day in 99 Nights in the Forest?

Five minutes, by the game's own clock. The night warning appears at about 3:15, night falls at 3:45, and morning arrives at 5:00 with one gem for surviving. GamePix's listing asks if you can "endure all 99 nights"; we haven't seen what happens at the end.

How we tested this game

We played the GamePix embed (and its direct build) in desktop Chrome on October 5, 2026: seven runs, eight in-game nights, a mid-run reload to test saving, a phone-size window and Chrome's touch emulation. Our test machine has no graphics card, so the game ran at low frame rates and took minutes to load; we played with sound muted, and a few numbers (deer damage, day length, carrot value) come from the game's own debug log in the browser console.

We don't show star ratings or play counts on game pages unless we can check them. Spotted something that changed? Tell us.
